TaekwonV
3ds max, Painter, Photoshop
November 2006

Hi, there
This is the renewed design for the new design competition of TaekwonV which is a really old Korean robot. I was trying to keep the original look as much as possible.
Sometimes, I use 3D tools for my paintings and, I used 3D Studio max seriously for this piece, even it was kind of hard to call it 2D painting (Recently, lots of my works are like that).
Anyway, It was kind of a different approach to create this painting using 3D application. I used a camera map tool in max which is mainly used for the final renderings of matte paintings and etc....
I painted over 3D mesh with a different pose, and I wanted to create another one with altered pose and background. Then I used my painting as a texture for my 3D using a camera map tool.
It is hard to understand when you read it, but it would be clear when you see it. I saved tutorial movie files in my website http://www.tychoi.com/cameramap1.htm
I originally made it for a company presentation. Hope it would help you.
